the_mandarin
I need some advice on Plug sockets. All the sockets around the house do not have switches. So when I want to switch something off, I have to pull the plug off the wall. I tried to find a socket with a switch online, but the only ones available seem to be the ones with extension cords. Others are multi way sockets which are quite expensive. I am looking for something like this, but with just one socket and switch. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pro-Elec-3-Switch-Adaptor-Gang/dp/B001KMR5QO/ Is what I am looking for not available in the market? Or am I just looking for it by the wrong name?
geared
You mean like this http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Electrical/White+Wiring+Accessories/Switched+Socket+1+Gang+Single+Pole/d190/sd2633/p88746 Twin socket http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Electrical/White+Wiring+Accessories/Switched+Socket+2+Gang+Double+Pole/d190/sd2633/p17663 It might be worth considering the age of your electrics tho, it sounds like they're pretty old so perhaps having an Electrician do a safety test before starting any work??? the_mandarin
Thanks - but this is not what I am looking for. These would involve making changes to the existing electrical fittings in the house. I one I am looking for is something that can just be plugged into the existing sockets. In short, a socket with a switch that can be plugged into the existing socket.
Itrytoplease
you want something like these, though when I bought them it was three for a fiver. http://direct.asda.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-ASDA-Site/default/Search-Show?q=remote+control+sockets hope this helps ---------- Post added 18-07-2013 at 17:33 ---------- I've had 6 for 4-5 years now, a couple could do with replacing but all in all -there Great
the_mandarin
The remote controlled one is too expensive, but this might do the trick for me! http://direct.asda.com/Status-24-Hour-Timer-Switch/000582475,default,pd.html Thanks a lot
Itrytoplease
Have a look at the price in store, as I said I only paid a fiver for mine, and I did look about getting some more about 12 months ago and they were still the same price? Don't believe all on line prices, they aint going to show you the cheapest. I have fun with mine, the electric blanket is connected (not relevant) my TV is connected, as is the Fan, along with a couple of other things. Pure lazy - I'm sat at the computer and I can turn the telly off or on, the same with the fan, and the same with the electric blanket (a god sent when winter comes) saves money in a way because you can switch it/everything on when you need it. Worth thinking about, though at the price quoted in my link - I'd have to think again. In others words I wouldn't pay it. (perhaps)
the_mandarin
Okay - I will. I was originally looking for a socket for my wireless repeater, and that does not need a remote controlled feature. But these would surely be useful to use with a fan or an electic blanket.

alchresearch
Thanks - but this is not what I am looking for. These would involve making changes to the existing electrical fittings in the house. To be honest that's not a bad thing. I don't like the look at that 3 into 1 thing you posted, it looks like a potential fire hazard. A single socket is just 98p http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/electrical/switches-sockets/white-switches-sockets/sockets/-specificproducttype-single_sockets/Marbo-Switched-Single-Socket-SP-13A-White-12498688?skuId=13019337 Double £1.98 http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/electrical/switches-sockets/white-switches-sockets/sockets/-specificproducttype-double_sockets/Marbo-Switched-Double-Socket-SP-13A-White-11567745?skuId=12078451 Switch off the mains, remove the old and fit the new. Its a simple as undoing a screw. Even if its beyond you and you ask an electrician they're not going to charge a lot, they'll probably supply the sockets and will be able to buy them at trade prices. When it comes to electricity in the home, don't skimp, don't cut corners. I'm sure the fire brigade would agree.
