Dan_Ashcroft
No amount of protesting will stop fracking, too much money involved, its a done deal like it or not. We'll be 100% solar and wind by 2040, especially the way the Chinese are now focusing on solar really hard. Is it worth poisoning our water table for generations, so some Swiss chemical companies can make a few billion out of the death throws of fossil fuels? Fracking is the dumbest thing humans have come up with since CFCs and thalidomide

Dan_Ashcroft
That'll be interesting on a still night...especially in winter.. There's this cool new invention called batteries. They aren't quite as good as they need to be, but that's the technology that's the game changer Uruguay already run 80-90% of solar and wind (with no geothermal resources like Norway). All it takes is the political will from government to get out of the pockets of the oil lobby.

Dan_Ashcroft
Wonder why, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Climate_of_Uruguay The misconception of solar power is that it runs on sun. It doesn't, it runs on light. Uruguay has 400 miles of coastline, compared to our 8000 miles. I'm pretty sure the North and Irish seas get as windy as anywhere

Give us a clue where you are going to store all this energy.

Everyone will have a battery the size of an archive box in their garage or loft. It will store enough energy to power their house and car for several days. Dan_Ashcroft
What about forgemasters? Offshore wind farms and solar farms (like those springing up by the side of the M1) will still feed a stripped down national grid for industry
