Nagel
Could it possibly be that coal mining gives work to honest people rather than these nebulous fat cats and is therefore more acceptable, despite the rather obvious problems that it creates? You don't think people who work on drilling rigs are honest people just trying to earn a living?

I'm saying that the anti's don't see that and hence are blind to it, but they see lots of people walking down coal mines and hence that makes it acceptable. Which has absolutely zero relevance to the OP.
Obelix
Translation: I don't like the uncomfortable truth so I'll try and declare it irrelevant. In case you hadn't noticed the OP was getting on for 500 posts ago.
I1L2T3
You don't think people who work on drilling rigs are honest people just trying to earn a living? It's a different scenario. Frack, move on, frack somewhere else, don't give a crap about the locals. Open a deep mine, build infrastructure and a community round it. Stay for decades. For me this is about environmental catastrophe, which it will be if implemented on any scale. There's no doubt on that, bar for those who bury their heads. Obelix
I rather think you need to show that it will be environmentally bad then which you've failed to do so so far. You also need to explain why it's suddenly unacceptable, when we have a huge legacy of coal mining, which required entire villages to move due to gas escapes, but that was considered perfectly fine. Where did i ever post my support for coal mining ? You post random replies and expect me to answer ?
Obelix
Where did i ever post my support for coal mining ? You post random replies and expect me to answer ? no I post things that show inconsistencies in arguments and I expect you to address them. That's not unreasonable, and I notice your continued evasion of the question so I can only conclude you don't have an answer.

Open a deep mine, build infrastructure and a community round it. Stay for decades. It doesn't work like that. Coal mining has laid waste to vast areas of the country with the blight of huge slag heaps and opencast areas which will never fully recover. The area to the east of Sheffield looks like it was once quite nice, but it's been totally done over and ruined by coal mining. I'm not completely convinced about fracking and my one area of concern is the visual impact it will have on the delicate and ever decreasing English landscape. It can be protected, but that costs money and the only way the money will be spent is if the government imposes very tight regulations on the companies involved.
