JFKvsNixon
This universe is made of matter and energy, yours appears to be made of just energy, hence you can't be living in this universe. Here some more copy and past for you to read. You, this computer, the air we breathe, and the distant stars are all made up of protons, neutrons and electrons. Protons and neutrons are bound together into nuclei and atoms are nuclei surrounded by a full complement of electrons. Hydrogen is composed of one proton and one electron. Helium is composed of two protons, two neutrons and two electrons. Carbon is composed of six protons, six neutrons and six electrons. Heavier elements, such as iron, lead and uranium, contain even larger numbers of protons, neutrons and electrons. Astronomers like to call all material made up of protons, neutrons and electrons "baryonic matter". Until about thirty years ago, astronomers thought that the universe was composed almost entirely of this "baryonic matter", ordinary atoms. However, in the past few decades, there has been ever more evidence accumulating that suggests there is something in the universe that we can not see, perhaps some new form of matter. A baryon is a composite subatomic particle made up of three quarks (as distinct from mesons, which comprise one quark and one antiquark). Baryons and mesons belong to the hadron family, which are the quark-based particles. The name "baryon" comes from the Greek word for "heavy" (βαρύς, barys), because, at the time of their naming, most known elementary particles had lower masses than the baryons. As quark-based particles, baryons participate in the strong interaction, whereas leptons, which are not quark-based, do not. The most familiar baryons are the protons and neutrons that make up most of the mass of the visible matter in the universe. Any chance of you sharing the source of your copy and paste? I1L2T3
The bottom line is that no bugger truly understands how it all works. Classic physics would hold that energy is a property of matter. Other theories suggest that all matter is made of energy. In terms of what started all this, the statement that fracking wells generate energy, it doesn't really make much difference. They don't generate anything. They extract stuff that already exists in the ground using an industrial process. In terms of what that means for mere humans it really is this simple and little changed since cavemen times. We find things that we can burn to get heat that we can use. At fracking sites nothing is burned to get heat that we can use. It is transported to other locations and burned in those other locations. Until it gets burned the heat we require is not available. SpikeMac
Any chance of you sharing the source of your copy and paste? It is from NASA. To make sense of it in this context, angos is going to have to tell us more about what quarks are, how they are assembled into baryons and why they stick together. When he's done that, we just need a definition of energy and a few bits of simple maths and we'll be done. Can you get on with that please ang? JFKvsNixon
Why, Because it is the accepted thing to do. Is this beyond you? is there something in it that you disagree with? Angos/Maximous/MrSmith/ivanava, what has this got to do with anything?

I1L2T3
Hurrah. Now, about that energy security. Surely exploiting shale gas can help us here. We might even become a net exporter of gas again. If it works out then in terms of energy security then we have to regulate it so that our needs are met first. My big concern Is foreign energy companies simply exporting what they extract, especially if consumers can be charged more in other countries. And in truth our woefully deficient gas storage facilities give them a great excuse. We need to invest in storage and regulate exports.
