Rupert_Baehr
Most parents wouldnt have a clue about how to turn on a filter or firewalls etc You obviously have an issue with government that seems to be clouding your judgement on whats right here. Maybe you should start a rally to Downing Street. The chants would be interesting..... "WHAT DO WE WANT? PORN!.....WHEN DO WE WANT IT? NOW!" "WE WANT THE RIGHT TO WATCH A FIGHT" That sort of thing! Alternatively, perhaps I have an issue with people who think 'Nanny State' should provide everything and they should be absolved from all responsibility. It's an attitude which pervades many threads on this forum.

Chris_Sleeps
I think you'll find im probably in the majority. Argumentum ad populum. Be as numerous as you wish. It's still a reactionary gesture that won't work.

So you think that the web should be left as it is and kids under 18 should be able to look at what they want? Im really not sure what your argument or motive is? Chris_Sleeps
So you think that the web should be left as it is and kids under 18 should be able to look at what they want? Adults should take an interest in their own children, and protect them, and not leave it to the state to implement unworkable policy. That's my view. Im really not sure what your argument or motive is? I think the point is that parents should be monitoring what the children are looking at on the web, not some third party. The best filter in the world is the big power off button.

That's my view. Your right. We should be able to sell them alcohol & fireworks. Maybe undo the law on using a child seat in cars. Get rid of the age of consent all together. Let the parents decide. Chris_Sleeps
Your right. My right? We should be able to sell them alcohol & fireworks. Argumentum ad extremum. Make computers illegal if you want to protect children. I can be silly in the opposite direction to you. However, I'm not silly. Alcohol and fireworks are workable policies - and policed. The internet isn't. Get rid of the age of consent all together. Let the parents decide. Parents can't consent for their children's sexual acts. Argumentum ad extremum again. You've got an untenable position so you have to resort to being silly.

You just kept repeating yourself. The government are addressing an issue that is a concern for millions of parents. And you slag it off. Its a positive step forward and it may not work but something is being done so get with the program. Or come up with your own revolutionary idea on how to regulate what children are looking at on the internet and im sure everyone would pay attention.
