Who says a downloader has not paid to see the movie at the theaters and/or bought the (much more profitable-) DVD/Blu-Ray?

Considering the DVD and Blu Ray discs come with an electronic version, or that the user could rip the movie from their disc, I think its highly unlikely a legitimate owner of a disc would torrent the same film.

These days (of iPads/tablets/etc.) many do, echoing in good part the reasons I have explained.

That did not used to be the case at all, until only a few years ago.

If they were reasonably savvy BITD, and for many DVDs/BRs these days still.

I know plenty of people who have long used torrents to get good quality/small footprint rips of their DVDs/BRs, rather than faff around themselves.

Format-shifting is a whole other dimension to this particular debate, and just as relevant to it - but we've strayed off-topic far enough, don't you think? ;)

I've done that quite a lot of times. recently I downloaded 'blow' I know its up in the loft on dvd It was quicker to dload it than go fetch the original. ( I also saw it at the cinema)

I do it with music a lot as well.

If i'd spent $300m making a movie i would want people to pay to see it.

Downloading the movie via a torrent is not paying to see that content.

Most people regard that as stealing. Thats why people are getting prosecuted for it.

Would you work for free?

No, they don't. Most people understand the difference between theft and a breach of copyright.

And no one in the UK has been successfully prosecuted for breaching copyright.

So if i paid to see it at the cinema. You have the movie on DVD & i steal it from your house.

Thats ok?

Seems like thats what you saying. Once ive paid to see it, i own it in any format so its ok to download.

How about borrowing a DVD and burning it to your computer? Would you see that as stealing?

The problem doesn't lie in file shearing. The problem is when people take a recorder into the cinema and make illegal copies of films.

Going a bit off topic though, aren't we?

If the purpose of the government was to solely rid the net of indecent pictures and videos,I would say that's great!

But since we have just had the "prism" secret monitoring scandal last month, and the fact they are going to be using a Chinese firm with rubbish credibility,I would probably say there is more to this than the N.S.P.C.C spiel that is being spoon fed to the media.

Agreed - see my comment on post# 197

So glad we aren't all blind to what they're up to here.

Bing search engines the first to implement a pop up for people who search for child abuse on the internet

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-23476089

Microsoft said the notifications aimed "to stop those who may be drifting towards trying to find illegal child abuse content on the web via search engines".

i was just gonna say, surely only the daftest actually use normal search engines for child porn? rather than other more hardcore means such as the deepweb

as the spokesperson said itll deter people from dabbling maybe

It isn't going to deter the perverts, but its a step in the right direction.

as i said, the hardcore wont be using normal search engines, but it might deter those who might type something in thats dodgy and deter them from carrying on with it
