I'll bet the Louis is the name Kate wanted and if she wasn't royalty and was just a normal woman her new sons name would just be Louis; the "palace" will have suggested/insisted on George Alexander. It's not everyone who can change their family name when they are on the wrong side of a war. It's not really a name change as such, Mountbatten is merely English for Battenberg. Still, I hardly think his ancestry should be held against him and immigrants not only anglicising their names but not hesitating against taking up arms for Britain against the nation of their ancestors is a rather good example of true integration.
