Taggys Ice Cream ?

Hulleys ice cream factory was at bottom of our road virtually and they used to have kiosk at top of drive dispensing the biggest ice creams (complete with flakes, sauce and hundreds and thousands) I've ever seen but maybe that was because I was only a child. Recently Oldfields which used to be at Firth Park made superb ice cream and then of course there is the bees knees in ice cream and that is Bradwells

I've not heard of Taggy's, but then I left Sheffield in the 1960s. I grew up in Gleadless, where as I recall there were two ice cream firms operating: Ronksley's and the one which my family favoured, Granelli's. When I was small they had a van which, to a child, was a thing of wonder, with barley-twist columns supporting the roof awning. I wonder if that van has been preserved, come to think of it I wonder if it was a figment of my imagination!

I don't think I ever tasted Ronksley's but Granelli's was just wonderful. One of their specialities was the ice cream "sandwich" which came in either chocolate or strawberry flavour: the ice cream itself was vanilla, but one of the two wafers which enclosed it had a strip of choc. or strawb. running through it.

Have a look at these,

Does anyone remember the ice cream van that always sold (every lunch time) outside Firth Park Grammar School in the 60's.

I remember it was an old van, hand painted if I remember right.

Never tasted ice cream so good since.
