loobylou-lou
Taggys was by far the best ice cream i have tasted. He used to come round on Sunday afternoons after lunch. Cornets with raspberry sauce on and i think he used to put chocolate bits on too if you wanted. The chocolate sandwiches were great too. The only ice cream i have had since that has come close(ish) is called Mackies which is from the supermarket.
nevynxx
Taggy was Ernest battle and yes it was the best icecream ever !! But he did not make the recipe up himself.......My grandad gave him 'Taggy' the recipe and no my grandad is not responsible for the recipe either. There was an old guy with a barrow of some sort obviously refirdgerated somehow who used to barrow what we now call 'Taggys' around Heeley and surrounding areas, when he retired he gave the recipe to my grandad Ernest Hind who had no use for it & gave it to a very enterprising Mr Battle, ironically it is the only icecream my mum likes and we don't have the recipe to recreate it !! marieharvey
I remember Taggy's ice cream - it was my favourite and definitely the best ice cream ever. The van would come down our street (Aislewood Road) and we would all rush out to get some. I have never found any ice cream as good but keep trying! Bring back Taggy's I say.
