ccit
The term "mate" is so false. I hate it. I can't imagine using it for anyone, let alone a woman. Ditto - it's awful.

Alien52
I object most strongly at being called mate, especially by young kids on the check-out in Tesco. I am not their mate. Totally agree.I have boycotted my local supermarket for this reason.
megalithic
Why the need to punctuate with anything other than "thanks" ?
Bladesman
Don't really care about the use of the word mate. It probably is over used the most though. Although there are far worse things to worry about being called.
tomo1993
The only time you should call a woman "mate" is if you are the sort of bloke than can never get to "mate" with one. :hihi:

muddycoffee
"Mate" is ok from someone you are already aquainted to, however if someone who you are buying a service or goods from calls you "mate" then that is offensive and unprofessional, as they should be using "polite" language not over familiar. They cannot consider themselves to be a "mate", as you haven't invited that level of familiarity and wish to keep the interaction on a respectful level.
