ChrisOffbeat
As England storm their way to a momentous Ashes victory, the Sheffield University Staff Cricket Club (SUSCC) prepares to welcome cricketing legend Michael Vaughan to the crease in a spectacular Legends vs. Locals match. The NatWest Locals vs Legends T20 fundraising match will take place at the University of Sheffield's Norton Playing Fields, Warminster Road, Norton on Wednesday 14 August 2013 at 5pm. Tickets, priced at £8 per adult which includes entry for up to two children, are now available from the Students' Union Box Office in the Students' Union on Western Bank or online at http://tickets.sheffieldstudentsunion.com/admin/ents/event/5177/ With cricket fever gripping the nation, SUSCC have added an extra special date to their fixture list after winning the chance to host the NatWest T20 match, which is expected to raise thousands of pounds for the Club and for local good causes including the Sheffield Children’s Hospital charity. Sheffielder Michael Vaughan, who is considered one of the most successful cricket captains in history after guiding his team to victory against Australia in the 2005 Ashes series, will lead a team of cricketing legends hoping to get the SUSCC into a spin. SUSCC, which celebrates its landmark 60th anniversary this year, won the opportunity to host some of the country's finest sportsmen on their home turf after beating more than 600 other cricket clubs across England and Wales in the nationwide competition to scoop one of the three matches on offer. SUSCC are generously offering two promising and talented local youth cricketers the opportunity to take part in the once in a lifetime opportunity as part of the Locals team. Another place in the team will also be auctioned off in order to raise vital funds for the Sheffield Children's Hospital. The Yorkshire Cricket Board will be running a match-day under nines Kwik Cricket tournament with opportunities for the youngsters to be coached by the England Legends. A fundraising lunch will take place before the match making the event a wonderful day of cricket which is fun for all the family. Richard Ward, SUSCC captain and Learning and Teaching Development Manager from the University of Sheffield said: "The opportunity to play a match against Michael Vaughan's Legends is the crowning moment in this landmark 60th anniversary year. "Our club is a special meeting place for sport and global culture – uniting individuals from a wealth of nationalities around a shared loved of the game. Through the Legends match we hope to open up a great cricketing occasion to local communities in a celebration of Sheffield's vibrant cricketing scene."
