Ariel Castro's statement

Recommended Posts

You do not NEED sex, therefore you cannot be addicted to it, plus it is now widely considered to be a myth by psychological practitioners.

So, you can only be addicted to something that you 'NEED', like..........alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, heroin.........etc.

Sex gives you a physical and pleasurable feeling. Why can't that be addictive?

Sex is one of the most basic needs in human society. I take it you never come across Maslow, Handy et all?

Maybe he's never come across sex??

I don't know, that's personal to him. It's his life he can do or not do whatever he wants but to pass his own views off as officialdom in-so-much that everyone else should do the same as him is wrong.

What Castro did was wrong, he imprisioned people and showed no compassion for their wishes. I say that because it is unlikely his victims wishesdto be subjected to what he did in light of their recent media statements.

these create spacial requirements where the body NEEDS them.

There are two different types of addiction, physical and psychological. Alcohol, nicotine and heroin all create physical needs in the chemical make up of your brain. This is why people go through withdrawal. you do not go through withdrawal if you don't get your rocks off regular enough.

Sex addiction is treated as a psychological addiction and now it is becoming considered a myth and an excuse.

If you are addicted, in the real sense of the word, then when you stop you will have physical withdrawal symptoms.

Like when you stop drinking alcohol/drugs and you get the shakes, sweating, racing heart, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.

No its not and science moves on from what has been written 50+ years ago, especially in the fields of psychology. Unless you think conditions such as penis envy are also valid.

Sex is not Needed by an individual to survive. Society needs it but that is a purely anthropological issue and nothing do with the physical or psychological needs of an individual.

Although Wex might not like being supported by an article in The Guardian:

Recently, sex addiction was excluded from the DSM 5, the US manual of mental disorders, along with behavioural addictions to food, the internet and caffeine.

"We looked at sex addiction," said one of authors, "but there was no science at all. None."

That's a list of mental disorders, not things that are addictive. Why would caffeine be on the list?

Smoking is both physical and psychological, otherwise you would just go cold turkey and you would never feel the need to smoke again.

To say sex can't be addictive is ridiculous. We don't need to gamble, but some people spend every penny on it...........because they are addicted!
