Would you rent out your driveway as a parking space?

Recommended Posts

Eric Pickles, minister for parking and bins, has backed people renting out their driveways as a parking space without the need for planning permission.

Although I'm not a fan of the buffoon I really can't see why anyone should need planning permission or the agreement of the local authority to use their driveway as a parking space. It's not as if they are building on it or setting up a fracking operation, they would simply be using the driveway as it was meant to be used.

Would anyone on here be willing to rent out their driveway? After all a driveway probably adds about £4000 to the price of a house and if you don't have a car why not try and recoup some of that cost?

You're just trying to get a list of people to check to see if they are declaring their extra income aren't you. ;)

I was under the impression it was common practice in some of our cities, just heard on the news that you can get a fine of up to £20,000 for doing it without planning permission, which does seem a bit daft.

And yes I would if I didn't need it.

I would definitely rent out my driveway if I didn't need it. It makes good sense to earn ongoing cash from something you don't need.

That said, I would literally and genuinely rent out my own 75 year old grandma. Nothing too extreme, just light duties, I draw the line at anything heavier than her moving a bed, no getting her to help with getting a piano upstairs, well not unless they provide her with a heavy lifting belt to take the strain.

If you can make money out of something, do it!

No idea to be honest. Never really gave it any thought until this thread, however, the spaces are only free during working hours, unfortunately.

No that's fine, I work better when the owners are out for the day :D
