GOLDEN OLDIE
can anyone remember what beauty products their wives, mothers or grans used through the 1950s and 1960s?
scousemouse
I remember using a hair laquer called Andre Phillipe. You could have gone the back of a motor bike at 70mph and your hair wouldn't have moved!! It was the very devil to try and wash/brush out!!! I remember my mum using Max Factor face products. Daven
Ponds cold cream was always on my Nans dressing table .
Guest
My Nan always used Astral moisturiser. I remember the big, blue and white tub, but her loyalty to the brand outlived more than one packaging makeover. My mum used Atrixo hand cream.
Joanl
OK in the 50's....Outdoor Girl lipstick and Block Mascara. Phulnana (sp) foundation. Ponds vanishing cream. Eyeliner came in the 60s starting off with a normal eyebrow pencil. Outdoor Girl again. Oh and perfume wise....Evening in Paris and/or Californian Poppy. Joanl
Just a thought, wasn't there a Max Factor Pan Cake as well that was a sort of compressed powder, before Crème Puff.
Ms Macbeth
In the early 60s I wore Tangee lipstick, bought in Woolies. I moved on to Outdoor Girl in a fetching shade of pale mauve, with heavy black eyeliner and mascara à la Dusty Springfield. The beehive was also obligatory, but I can't remember the name of the lacquer. I used LinCo Lin (sp?) egg shampoo, which was meant to bring out blond highlights. My mum used Max Factor Crème puff and Revlon lipstick, and Ponds cold crème. I liked Avon Topaz and Coty L'aimant perfumes. I remember feeling very sophisticated when my boyfriend (who has been my husband for 40+ years) bought me some L'air du Temps by Nina Ricci. I wish I'd kept the bottle! Duffems, I remember Aqua Manda, didn't it smell a bit of oranges?
