National Hero Godfrey Bongo gongo land Bloom?

Recommended Posts

Let's keep it more simple than that.............the Daily Mail says your money is funding Nigerian rockets and astronauts, nothing about the poor..

And you're happy to give aid to a country the has a space programme that takes priority over its poor.:loopy:

Does anyone know some people are out.

Is that what you managed to read?

Patriot Godfrey Bloom's speech was about throwing our good money after bad year on year regarding overseas aid, a tiny part of his speech said to Bongo, Bongo Land.

So now you've made it clear, you're happy to pay for Nigerian Rockets and Astronauts at the expense of this countries needy.:loopy:

You're over simplyfying a complex discussion, just as Godfrey Bloom was. It isn't an either/or scenario. If money wasn't being spent on Nigerian rockets and astronauts (assuming it was), it wouldn't somehow find it's way to our countries needy, you'd probably more likely see a reduction in taxation, especially from this government, but it wouldn't make any material difference to tax payers.

Whilst we're talking about rockets and astronauts, what would be your view if those rockets were being supplied by Britain and built by British engineers? There's often a 'wink, wink, nudge, nudge' conditional payback with schemes like these.

Remember the Pergau Dam project in the late 80's under Thatcher's Government (you couldn't call her an aid soft touch).

The British government brokered a deal whereby they'd support the building of the dam, equivalent to 20% of the Malaysian government's arms spend with the UK. We gained significant revenue and our engineers worked on the dam project..a win/win, but if you looked at it purely as an aid package it looked like we were giving away £200 million.

Hmm now I see where many on this forum are coming from.

They built a dam that we paid for and then paid our engineers out of the money we gave them.

At one time I could se where you're coming from but they've shut Middlewood I believe.

So why does the headline say this then:

How £1billion of your cash is being used to help Nigeria join the space race.

It is misinformation and has been exposed as a lie by the Department for International Development.

That is the complaint they are making in their headline. If they want to be specific, then say that Nigeria are spending on astronauts and rockets while their people are living in poverty, instead of trying to come over Godfrey Bloom like.

You make a good argument for introducing a minimum IQ level to vote. I bet when you were at school the teachers sent themselves out of the room.

Give countires aid from British tax funds so they will spend it with British firms which creates wealth for us.....an utterly bizarre and wrong headed argument.....the same one used to argue for more public sector workers because they will pay tax, but somebody paid out of tax will never pay as much back in tax, much like awarding aid for the sake of gaining arms contracts, it's indirect subsidisation of an industry if public money finds it's way into an arms firm, via bongo bongo land.
