taxman
More babies were born in the UK in 2011-12 than any year since 1972, the Office for National Statistics says. In all, 813,200 UK births were recorded in the year, said the ONS, contributing to population growth that was, in absolute terms, the highest in the EU. Is this a wonderful thing that will provide plenty of workers and taxpayers for the future in order to provide funds for an aging population? Or, is it a drain on finite resources, irresponsible breeding on an already overpopulated planet and a threat to our countryside and environment? Are these bundles of joy getting born proportionately throughout the country? No it's in big cities than haven't got the expansion room, in terms of health and education if nothing else. One recent birth needed the entire wing of one hospital. This isn't good news.
Agent Orange
Suppose it all depends on who is breeding. If it's chavs and the professional benefit claimants, I suspect these children will be the future scroungers and not much use to society.

TheTwirler
The highest rate is in London, I don't think it is as simple as saying that chavs are breeding. The article I saw earlier seemed to be inferring that the high rate in London is due to the demographics and basically, certain sections of society having significantly higher birth rates than others. If it's the former, what happens when they become the ageing demographic in two generations time? Yet more babies to provide for them? That's just a Ponzi scheme in action, which leads to your latter conclusion.

Its a bad thing, there isn't anything positive to say about it. Female immigrants lead to UK baby boom Several hundred thousand more female immigrants than had been expected surged into Britain over the past decade, boosting not only the numbers of foreign-born residents but also leading to a mini-baby boom, an analysis of 2011 census data shows. Migrants change UK forever: White Britons 'will be in minority by 2066' BRITAIN will be the Western world’s most ethnically diverse nation after 2050, according to an explosive academic study. I wouldn't worry too much, we will be an Islamic country long before 2066!
Ridgeway84
If it's the former, what happens when they become the ageing demographic in two generations time? Yet more babies to provide for them? That's just a Ponzi scheme in action, which leads to your latter conclusion. Spot on. I've had heated arguments with a friend who reads The Guardian daily and sees himself as a sophisticated man, above prejudice. He's right, he is. He's also hamstrung. When I said immigration and the many kids that spring from that are a drain he robotically repeats the future taxpayers dogma. That's fine if they all find work in a declining nation with no massive industries. More likely the majority will but a lot won't. Most that do will just work in money circulating service jobs. We need masses in wealth creation for this to work. He also has no answer at all for the question of what happens when they become old. It's just this generation rolling a problem on. It seems we're just importing millions of low skilled people who can't contribute much to their own nations so they come here knowing that if they fail here then there's a safety net. Forgetting immigrants it's an obvious truth that society's underclass and Chavs etc breed at double the speed and number of working normals as they are careless with nothing to lose. Normals who have two kids in their late twenties or later when careers are established are being outnumbered by Wayne's and Taneesha's. All of the above are arguments to cut child benefit, privatise the NHS and make it clear to immigrants that having been given the gift of citizenship they'll get nothing more.
