Hello

Can anyone tell me the origin of Rushby Street Sheffield.

:(Cheers J

I read somewhere that some of the streets around that area were named after people, I think it was in an edition of the Burngreave messenger and must have been over a year ago.

Rushby St is named after David Rushby who was a builder and joiner in the 1800s, he built houses on Baretta St and of course Rushby St.

I always wondered about the origins of street names in Sheffield, particularly around Adsetts Street where I lived. Will try and get a copy of the book too. Grateful for the info.

Adsetts Street was built in the 1860 by the Sheffield & Grimesthorpe Freehold Land Society and named after the society's president George Adsetts, who at that time lived at Brightside he was a land agent with offices in Change Alley.
