"Over the last several days, Typhoon Utor - the world's first Super Typhoon - has made landfall in the Philippines" I presume I received this because of cargos on ships in the area, but The World's First SUPER TYPHOON sounds dangerous. Vaati Posted August 13, 2013 Share Posted August 13, 2013 It's similar to a Cat 3 Hurricane (Major Hurricane). The windspeed of 185/kmh is in the Cat 3 American Hurricane Bracket. I think the naming is just different. Some places call them Hurricanes, Some Typhoons, some cyclones. I'd imagine that there is something extra to the storm, Like when Sandy hit New Jersey last year.
