Shogun
RCT wasn't formed until later(1960s I think) and its predecessor was the RASC. ---------- Post added 18-08-2013 at 08:50 ---------- Not necessarily an infantryman. There are staff sergeants in corps. It looks more like a Mechanics or drivers uniform its not a battle dress more like a overall type uniform worn my the likes. ---------- Post added 18-08-2013 at 13:54 ---------- I've just been having the magnifying glass on that picture and I think you can see what looks like an engineers bomb above the stripes.three stripes a bomb and a crown would indicate an Engineers staff sergeant, but the only thing is I can't see a lanyard which would indicate an Engineers uniform ... they also wore similar type of uniforms.if there was a picture of the cap badge we could tell a lot better. DUFFEMS
Sorry to repeat myself but, if this was his wedding day picture it should give his detail on his marriage certificate.
LeMaquis
What about that asking at that military shop on Abbeydale Road, more or less opposite the old picture house? I'd expect them to know as they specialise in military paraphernalia.
Harleyman
He's a staff sergeant wearing WW2 issue battledress blouse and trousers. The Army battledress was still being worn when I was in 1960-62. It had been updated though. Instead of closed neck collar it had lapels and we wore ties
El Cid
Can anyone tell me anything about my uncles uniform and stripes(not sure what its called, the colours above his pocket). Thanks
Shogun
They are second world war service ribbons the colours in the picture are not very good so its hard to tell what they are, the colours tell the flags of the country and what theater of the war the soldier served in ,the best way to tell anything is from cap badges. harvey19
Can anyone tell me anything about my uncles uniform and stripes(not sure what its called, the colours above his pocket). Thanks They look like the 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star, Italy Star and France and Germany Star. Usually there would also be the Defence medal and War medal.
