Mecky
Where abouts? I prefer the little market towns along the Rhine to be honest. Nothing like a good climb to the top of the hill. Bavaria for scenery and Berlin is excellent too
Rupert_Baehr
Where are you travelling from/to and by what means? (There are a few airlines offering good prices at that time of the year.) If you are driving, be aware that you will be required to have 'Mud & Snow' (or winter) tyres on your car. What do you want to see and do when you get there? Most towns and villages will have Christmas Fairs between about 23 November and Christmas. Steer clear of the 'big name' tourist resorts ... the prices tend to be 30% higher than in smaller towns. janie48
Lubeck was one of the nicest parts I visited.
Eccentric
If you like the sea, little cosy fish restaurants and wellness resorts, there is nothing quite like the Isle of Rügen. I once spent a fortnight in Göhren. Also, you should check out the gargantuan Koloss von Prora, a megalomaniacal Nazi monster that was never put to use and now houses a museum and restaurants. If, on the other hand, you prefer the Alps and the little mountain villages: Bad Reichenhall is well worth a visit. It’s in a southeastern nook by the Austrian border. That, too, is a wellness resort, from which you can climb various mountains if you so desire. Berlin is great, of course. No chance of ever being bored there. And it is surprisingly cheap in comparison with most European capitals.
