TheBlueDragon
Hi people, My girlfriends dad has been tidying and found an old unused National Savings bank account of my girlfriends which they'd forgotten about which has £13 and not used since 1993. What do we need to do about getting any money out of it and what do you think the interest could be?
whiteowl
Take it to the post office I assume, as for interest - 5% per annum (which I imagine will be far too generous) would make it worth about £34.
TheBlueDragon
I went to the Post Office earlier today and he said it's nothing to do with them anymore

Chris_Sleeps
Dormant accounts are complex. It depends if there are any records around if the Post Office are willing to pay it out. It's not an easy process, and is very unfair. I've heard of people with thousands in a bank account losing it all in this way. The Financial Services Authority is pretty useless in this regard too. MonkeyLover
Seen something about this on the tv this morning. I think the programme was called ":don't get done, get Dom" might be worth trying to watch it on catch-up. Sorry cant be sure what channel it was on. vwkittie
I did this the other week for a Birmingham Midshires account. I just wrote to them with the details I had (account number and last registered address) and gave then my current address and said I'd like to withdraw anything that was in there. They sent me a cheque straight out
