Bob Arctor
The days of motorway services are probably numbered anyway. Once we have fully automatic cars we'll be able to turn the front seats around and have a picnic meal in the car, motorway services stops will mainly be about using the toilet. We won't even need a coffee to keep us awake.
foxydebs
We will always require some form of motorway services as on long drives people will always need the toilet.

Flexo
The days of motorway services are probably numbered anyway. We won't even need a coffee to keep us awake. Motorway service stops will also become about electric vehicle fast charging, with service station operators seeing it as a great way to get people to stick around for half an hour while they get an 80% charge (e.g. Ecotricity's or Tesla's existing fast chargers). The Applegreen proposal on some scrub land at J33 is right next door to a big electricity substation..... The site up the road where they want to chop down ancient woodland is not.
