School holidays forced marriages warning

Recommended Posts

Apparently school holidays are a peak time for forced marriages so please be alert.

Teachers, doctors and airport staff need to be alert to the problem of forced marriages over the school holidays, the government has warned.

Ministers said there were concerns about teenagers being taken abroad thinking they were going on holiday but being forced into marriage instead.

Figures suggest cases are particularly common during the summer break.

The government is calling for increased awareness, and is promoting an advice line and information cards aimed at potential victims to explain how they can get help.

Foreign Office minister Mark Simmonds said: "The school summer holidays are the time when young people are at the highest risk of being taken overseas for a forced marriage.

Nurseries should also be alert.

The Forced Marriages Unit has resorted to handing out info cards to travellers and an anti forced marriages charity is advising victims to conceal spoons to set off airport metal detectors.

Please be alert and report if you suspect a forced marriage is taking place.

I remember a couple of warnings of these abductions/holidays been shot out by the media a few weeks ago. Any forced or arranged marriage is horrible in my view, even if the bride and groom like each other, regardless of age.

Surely if your bride to be is still at School then that should give you a clue she is a little too young?

How does it go down on social occasions?

Couple A = What does yor wife do? Shes a nurse

Couple B = What does your wife do? She works in sales

Couple C = What does your wife do? Shes doing her GCSEs.

Perhaps the bloke in couple C would feel a sense of shame?
