Ghozer
An interesting read that talks about salvaging the features, to be re-used, and talks about correct disposal of the waste generated... South Yorkshire, UK - An Edwardian wing of Grade II listed Jessop Hospital was a building which Sheffield University had permission to demolish. However that permission was subject to the 2011 Waste Regulations which makes reclamation and reuse a legal priority over any other means of disposal, provided a market exists for the salvage. Failing to do so is an offence under the 2011 Waste Regulations. http://www.salvonews.com/story/did-an-edwardian-demolition-in-sheffield-break-the-law-x77465x9.html

Obelix
However it is grounded in fact - take a drive up to Lake Havasu and you will see what he's getting at....
Longcol
However it is grounded in fact - take a drive up to Lake Havasu and you will see what he's getting at.... Yeah - London Bridge and Jessops were often mentioned in the same verse as symbols of England.....................
headup
Should have sold it to the Americans to rebuild there. They have bought more stupid things. Yeah because all Americans are stupid, just like all British people have appalling dental hygiene. At least the bridge found a good home - Lake Havasu is great! Unless it's Spring Break and then...not so much. Anyway, the way the demolition of Jessop's has been handled is pretty sickening. I'm all for progress, I love to see how Sheffield is growing and changing, but it appears that cold hard cash meant not even attempting to salvage any of the wonderful stonework or interior features. Sad.
Happ Hazzard
If it wasn't illegal, it should have been. Disgusting to see Sheffield's heritage torn down for a measley few quid from the university.

megalithic
I'm glad we're getting a new building there but it's a shame they didn't save some of the ornate pieces. Though saying that i guess they'd only have sat in storage for decades unused.
