Mister M
So Jimmy Carr thinks that much of feminism today has degenerated into "fat girls on hen nights shouting 'go girl!'!" Is this the same Jimmy Carr who said: "What do nine out of 10 people enjoy? Gang rape." Excuse me if I don't take anything Jimmy Carr says with anything other than a pinch of salt on such issues - he is a through and through misanthrope. I don't think that an uneducated section of our society has totally misread the script; it's the logical conclusion of identity politics which has been dominant in recent times (perhaps necessarily ?) The opinion formers are the ones who have misread the script IMO Peter Tatchel has moved from identity politics (gay rights) to more broader human rights in general; that is one way forward

Electerrific
Why should wanting equality translate into 'hating men.' Re-read the wording in the original post, please. It shouldn't. That's the point. Exactly.
Halibut
It shouldn't. That's the point. It doesn't in most cases - except in the minds of men who fear and despise women.
Ridgeway84
Feminism just like socialism is one of the vaguest terms around and there are 57 varieties of both types of ist. If you ask any young woman if they are a feminist they instantly say no. That's because it's a dirty word associated with Millie Tant and her radical conscience. However, if a government then removed all equality legislation and employers suddenly started barring women those same women would be very angry. Like most people, they want it both ways. There's also the phenomenon of women like Barbara Castle and Thatcher who made great strides while owing nothing to any ideology. They make it appear that all the protesting at the derby and waving placards was pointless. There are real Millie Tants walking around too who like all extremists simply damage the cause they claim to support. The future lies in equality in general as someone else said. An ideology associated with one gender or race is toxic these days.

They're the real role models for equality.
