Want to try a new team sport/way to keep fit? Try Korfball!

Recommended Posts

Hi there, if anyone is interested in starting a new sport then have you heard of Korfball? It's a mixed sport so both men and women play on the same team, it is originally from the Netherlands but is played all over the world including here in Sheffield!

Essentially it is a team sport similar to Basketball or Netball, where the aim is to score goals by shooting the ball through the hoop (or korf), it's a lot of fun and a great way to get fit. For a full description of it, take a look our club website (just google snakebite korfball) there are also lots of videos on youtube if you want to see it in action.

Korfball is played at all levels, here in Sheffield there are 4 clubs - 2 from the universities and 2 local clubs which all compete in regional leagues. My club Snakebite KC have teams with varying ability from beginner to advanced all of which have the opportunity to play in regular matches and tournaments.

And we are on the lookout for new members for the upcoming season, so whether you would just like to try a new and different way of keeping fit or whether you would like to learn a new sport and join in with matches then you are more than welcome!

Our first training session will be this Monday 2nd September at Handsworth Grange School Sports Hall from 7.30pm-9pm, the first 3 sessions will be free for newcomers so you can see if you really like it with no commitment. All equipment is provided and our experienced coaches are great at helping introduce the sport to those who are new to it, so come and give it a go!
