Planner1
I expect that he means increased from the price they were reduced to in the middle of that 7 year period... I expect he does, but his statement isn't specific and people often don't know the full history, which is of course important.
Penistone999
You mean increase by the whole £1 above the price they were when the schemes first started 7 years ago? Doesn't exactly cover the rate of inflation, does it? And of course you should already know that the Council do not increase permit prices just to make a profit, that is not legal, as Barnet Council found out. But they were reduced in price during that period ,so it wasnt a £1 increase , it was vastly more than that. It dosnt matter how the council try and spin it , it was a big increase. You should email Mr Cameron to tell him to reduce income tax to £1 just before the next election then we can complain about the tax rise. For the record though, am happy to abandon schemes. Screw 'em, makes no difference to me. Just please don't bitch about not being able to park near your house. I have no problem parking near my house , I have a big farm yard and 4 acres of land so have plenty of choice. But on a serious note, my point to Planner1 was that the councils claim they only increased it by £1 is complete rubbish and typical council spin . It has been proven time and time again that the council make vast profit from the permit schemes so cannot plead poverty and say they have to charge £36 per permit to "cover costs" . We know that to be utter rubbish.

The residents permit price was £35 after a couple of years it went up to £36. In 2010, just prior to the election, the Lib-Dem administration cut the price to £10. The incoming administration tried to hold that price as long as they could, but after a couple of years had to put it back up to the old price of £36. So, it has clearly only gone up overall by £1 in seven years. The Council don't make a vast profit from sales of permits alone, which bring in about half a million pounds a year. Parking Services costs around £4m per annum to run.

Ok, so now you've given him the facts, how long before him and his deluded cronies move the goal posts again in pursuit of their anti-council rhetoric. I don't think anyone is still saying permits alone are making a profit but they are an integral part of schemes which clearly are. It is disingenuous to use the £4m figure as Parking Services cover the whole city not just permit parking zones.

They send out their army of Meter Maids and tell them to bring home the bacon.
