They would do alright on the motorways but on the narrow British streets they'd block traffic for miles and no way could an 18-20 wheel tractor trailer hande the curves

medusa
Have you seen the cost and diesel figures for those trucks? Not only would they not fit, but our little island is so small compared to the continental US that I can't imagine that there's a haulage company out there which can justify the cost and diesel consumption of dragging a truck that large around when drivers are almost all home at least once a week. Those trucks are real homes from home, with double beds in the back and the like, and are meant for journeys of thousands of miles and for drivers who won't see their own beds for months on end. I'm sure that there are some specialist companies which can justify them for their particular fields, but the margins on general haulage just wouldn't pay to replace standard trucks with them, especially when you consider how much of the country would be inaccessible if you could only use the biggest roads with them. Spot on. Those trucks are made for coast to coast trips of thousands of miles. You'll find special rest stops for large trucks everywhere on the highways. They provide the very large parking spaces necessary, some with repair shops specializing in heavy duty diesel engines, refueling, food, hot showers, convenience stores, TV and Wi Fi ---------- Post added 31-08-2013 at 17:56 ---------- Chris Eubank seems to manage. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/2725247/Portrait-of-a-driver-Chris-Eubank.html Yes but hook up a big long trailer to it and see what would happen

By comparison the truck we owned which was double manned did northern Scotland to southern Spain or Morocco (and back again) every week, passing home on both directions. It doesn't really compare, does it?

I always had the urge to get behind the wheel of a Peterbilt or Freightliner but I gues I'll have ti be happy with my GMC Sierra
