Job centre staff attending interviews.

You could say that about any piece of clothing they own at 16!

Not having a suit to go to a job interview in is unthinkable IMO. You should not be able to claim JSA without having one, as it shows you are not serious about finding work.

Don't be daft. We house and feed prisoners, the unemployed should have more rights than murderers and paedophiles.

I've always thought job centres should employ a tailor and anybody finding themselves unemployed and requiring a suit should get one as soon as they find themselves unemployed, courtesy of the state, in addition to their social security entitlements. Other work related clothing should be provided if needed, safety goggles and lab coat for example, or hi vis and steel toe cap boots, decent jeans etc.

Perhaps you agree?

People who are long term unemployed now have to pay rent and council tax as soon as they start employment. Since April extended payments of council tax and housing benefit have not been permitted. This is viewed by the £multi-millionaires in government as being an incentive to work.

If the unemployed can save, it should be to pay basics such as rent and not for luxuries such as a suit.

CTR and extended HB are still paid, it was the cash back to work bonus that was scrapped. Travel asses can also be obtained, if requested by the claimant BEFORE they sign off.

But too many people DO spend money on unnecessary rubbish. Mobile phones, alcohol, smoking etc. Saving money should come before all those.

Mobile phone is essential for gaining employment nowadays. Can be bought for as little as half an hour of labour. Alcohol and smoking are different, and practically consist entirely of taxation. It's good for the taxpayer if unemployment benefits are spent on alcohol and baccy, if the unemployed person does a bit of cash in hand, they can actually become NET taxpayers.

Whilst many workers are a NET drain on the system due to not paying excessive taxes and claiming in-work benefits.

It's not hard to learn how to fit a cooker.

But getting the legal permission, paperwork and tickets to do so is.

And there are plenty of cheap 2nd hand cookers out there, but some people think they are too good for 2nd hand and would rather have a new one at exorbitant credit rates.

Not really, many haven't the money to purchase a second hand one outright, and could ill afford to have it legally fitted.

Why don't people have savings anymore? And don't tell me "they can't afford to save" because thats a load of crap. They just can't stop spending their money on rubbish.

How much do you live on?

What are your living costs (housing in particular)? How much do you spend to live?

How can people on minimum wage or dole save when pensioners drive inflation (in particular the inflation in the basic cost of living) with their lax attitude to money and above inflation benefit increases?

The minimum cost of living in this country is highly inflated, in particular housing costs, but also food, fuel and transport, purposefully by the state. Workers can ill afford to save. Especially younger ones, who have their living costs artificially inflated more than any other group whilst being penalised the most by the tax benefit system.
