Jive Knight
Blitz is the biggest jive venue in Sheffield, every Wednesday and Thursday night at Crookes Social Club, beginners' lessons start just after 7.30pm. Ceroc is a bigger national organisation but much smaller in Sheffield (which means there is a smaller choice of partners to dance with in an evening) - they are at the Davy on Prince of Wales Road. Both are Modern Jive - can be danced to a much wider variety of music (including slow, sultry Blues) than the high-energy classic swing jive you see in WWII films, and easier to learn. janie48
Do they perform the 1950's Rock and Roll style of jive like this I'm sure you will agree that Ronnie Corbett was the best dancer. ---------- Post added 07-09-2013 at 01:11 ----------
Jive Knight
Modern Jive has taken the moves from the rock & roll / swing jive and uses them, along with a lot of stuff pilfered from Latin dance styles, to create a fusion that can be danced either at that kind of speed or slower. A couple of clips to show Modern Jive style: (Obviously very advanced jivers, but the couples in the background show the more normal skill levels.) (A much more 'ordinary' level of skill on display here - definitely not experts with a practiced 'showcase' routine!) Most popular style nowadays if you just want to do the rock'n'roll style is Lindy Hop.
