The parkrun thread

Hi Flanker and thanks for your posts which I view with interest being an ex Park Runner now unable to run after having a hip replacement.

Great to see the continuing success of the junior run at Graves !

Question !

When are they going to place a limit on the numbers running at Endcliffe ?

Sheffield & Rotherham parkrun attendances for 18th & 19th March 2017.

123 - Concord, 6th Highest Attendance

172 - Graves Park

299 - Hillsborough, 2nd Highest Attendance

51 - Castle

608 - Hallam, 11th Highest Attendance in the UK

Total - 1,362

257 - Rother Valley, 7th Highest Attendance

67 - Clifton Park

Total - 324

Overall total = 1,686

Re: Limiting numbers at Hallam - I moved to Graves when they started partly because of high numbers at Hallam, it was then about 250 btw.

But the problem is fraught with difficulties - parkrun is a free event with no 'on the day' run registration, how would they do it?

Identify an alternative venue -

Millhouses is small and roadside running is a no-no.

The Upper Porter Valley, a good location but small and would be congested with 150 runners.

Norfolk Park, a 5 lapper?

Redmires, an out and back?

Limb Valley?

*these comments are my own and I have no official connection with parkrun.

jemson - "Millhouses roadside a no-no. Why? And couldn`t it be kept within the park?"

The straight answer is runner safety.

Maybe it could be kept within Millhouses Park but not easily and its been looked at many times. Maybe a 'strava' runner could squeeze in a 5k route there and see if it catches on. The current strava runs - 'Car park 2 Car park' is 0.9K add 'Striders 300m Track in a Park' = 1.2. Out and back = 2.4, Two laps = 4.8? The pinch point at the boating lake is a major problem, very tight.

I know that Hallam do roadside running on a much narrower pavement but I understand that when they started it was okay with parkrun HQ.

That makes sense. How about popping into Hutcliffe Woods? That would make it `interesting`? :o I did one last year at Dalby Forest that was very varied terrain-wise.

It can be a mud bath in hutcllife wood sometimes

edit: there seems to be some planning application for cycle paths through the wood.

Anybody know wot. Could be promising
