The parkrun thread

At a time that Eliud Kipchoge was running the equivalent of 8.5 parkruns at sub 14:11 pace, there were thousands of people across the world being cheered on at a more sedate pace.
We were all running, none of us (including Eliud) were racing, except perhaps against the clock.

There were 56/58 parkruns in the Yorkshire and Humber region. Cancellations at Goole and York.

Of 56 runs completed both last week and this, 28 had higher attendances, 26 were lower and two (Centre Vale (151) and Middleton Woods (70)) were the same.
Total attendance was 13315, a decrease of 626 (4.5%) from the previous week.

Following the launch of Cusworth Hall last week, Normanby Hall staged its 150th event and Wakefield Thornes its 250th.

Castle Howard & Rothwell both had attendances of 271, Centre Vale & Dalby Forest had 151, Humber Bridge & Penistone had 149, Bramley & Concord had 146, Conyngham Hall & Horton Park had 80 and Middleton Woods & Sheffield Castle had 70.

The average weekly attendance over the last 12 months has increased by 30.0% (9399 to 12217. The mean attendance per parkrun per week over the history of parkrun for the region is 210.2; the median is 170.

Millhouses will be interesting. I agree that the paths are quite narrow and I can see a lot of grass being churned up but we`ll see. I dread to think how many the first event will attract but it will be great for the cafe. Maybe the pub will open early too?

See below - The organisers are obviously aware of the narrow route and have tried to minimise things. The start at the south end will allow the field to thin out as much as possible too.

Course Description - Just under three anti-clockwise laps of the park, starting near the Abbey Lane end car park. The course is fast, flat, and all on tarmac paths, but most of all, fun! We ask particpants to please stay on the paths at all times to avoid damage to any of the ornamental areas of the park. Unfortunately dogs are not allowed at this event.

A massive 511 turned out for the inaugral Milhouses parkrun. Too many for the course IMO. But numbers will surely drop in the next few weeks as the uber-tourists tick off a new parkrun and look for new events to visit. Its a fast one with barely a hill to be seen. The first finisher recorded a sub 17 time which was impaired by having to lap hundreds of other runner on their 1st and 2nd laps. I was near the back and he came flying through before we reached the cafe for the first time. How did other runners find it?

Most regionnaires (and aspiring regionnaires) had to take another step back this last weekend with the launch of the tenth parkrun of the year in the Yorkshire & Humber region.

There were 58/59 parkruns in the Yorkshire and Humber region. Only cancellation at Catterick.

Of 55 events completed both last week and this, 21 had higher attendances and 34 were lower.
Total attendance was 13529 an increase of 214 (1.6%) from the previous week.

Millhouses launched with much fanfare and an attendance of 511. This is the second highest attendance for an inaugural across the region (beaten only by Heslington with 532 on 13 Jan 2018).
The total of ten new parkruns for the calendar year equals the most ever (also 2013).

Only 374 (2.70%) parkruns ever across the region have had an attendance fewer than the 37 at Storthes Hall.

Cross Flatts & Myrtle both had attendances of 151, Centre Vale & Selby had 138 and Horton Park & Sheffield Castle had 67.

The average weekly attendance over the last 12 months has increased by 30.7% (9401 to 12288. The mean attendance per parkrun per week over the history of parkrun for the region is 210.3; the median is 170.

The cumulative total number of parkruns so far for the year of 552,983 is a new annual record (cf 541,171 for 2018).

The least said about the weather today, the better: it was wet!
Consequently, parkruns and attendance was massively impacted. Several events were cancelled due to waterlogged/flooded courses and of those that did go ahead, falls of 50%+ in attendance were not uncommon.
This week’s summary concentrates on the record lows.

There were 50/59 parkruns in the Yorkshire and Humber region. Cancellations were at Goole, Halifax, Millhouses, New Earswick, Penistone, Potternewton, Selby, Storthes Hall and Wetherby.

This was the fewest events staged since 29 June.

Of 49 events completed both last week and this, two (Horton Park and Temple Newsam) had higher attendances and 47 were lower.
Total attendance was 6773, a decrease of 6756 (49.9%) from the previous week.

Several parkruns had record low attendances. Notably Brighouse (80) and Myrtle (48) recorded fewer than 100 runners for the first time, at their 152nd and 52nd events respectively.

The last time fewer than three parkruns had attendances of 300+ was 17 March 2018.

Total regional attendance was under 10000 for the first time since 16 March and was the lowest since 2 February (5018).

Cleethorpes & Dalby Forest both had attendances of 109, Cross Flatts & Humber Bridge had 85 and Conyngham Hall & Northallerton had 43.

The average weekly attendance over the last 12 months has increased by 29.3% (9429 to 12196). The mean attendance per parkrun per week over the history of parkrun for the region is 210.1; the median is 170.

Millhouses off fpr next 2 weeks!

Yeah - 'Autumn birdwatch in the park'. --- 0.9 miles in the park , 18 minutes walking by Google maps.

'On Saturday 2 November the Autumn Bird Walk will take place, setting off at 8am from the bottom of the steps into the park from Archer Road. This leisurely walk will go through the park to Tyzack's Dam and back through Ecclesall Woods. Everyone is welcome to join in, and binoculars will be available to borrow.'

I know parkrun is the new kid on the block and they will falling over themselves to accomodate existing  events by The Friends of Millhouses Park. But, I will be interested to know how many people take advantage of this walk and how long it takes them to clear the park. I'm sure Bird walks, gardening and litter picks will benifit from parkrunners attending the park and that all events can take place without bumping into each other.
