Flanker7
Andrew Burgess-Tupling Now the excitement of bonus parkruns during the festive period is over, parkrun settled back into its usual home of Saturday morning. But if you thought that this Saturday was going to be normal, read on! As with last Saturday, all 59 parkruns in the Yorkshire and Humber region went ahead. Of 59 events completed both last week and this (comparisons are with 28th Dec, not 1 Jan) 50 had higher attendances, seven were lower and two (Barnsley (234) and Heslington (385)) were the same. Total attendance was 17161, an increase of 3550 (26.1%) from the previous week. The cumulative attendance was a new record (beating 16147 from 12 Jan 2019). Barnsley & Cleethorpes both had attendances of 234, Catterick & Frickley Country had 224, Cliffe Castle & Millfield had 189, Halifax & Potternewton had 151 and Concord & Selby had 140. Niche stats: This was the first time a cumulative record attendance was set for the region without an individual venue record since 3 October 2015 when there were 7172 runners present at 35 venues. *This is the first occurrence of nine venues registering attendances of 500+ on the same Saturday. The average weekly attendance over the last 12 months has increased by 23.3% (10100 to 12453). The mean attendance per parkrun per week over the history of parkrun for the region is 210.7; the median is 170. *11 venues exceeded attendances of 500 on NYD 2019 and nine venues on NYD 2020. AND Millhouses clocked just six short of the 500 mark. Edited January 5, 2020 by Flanker7 highlighting
Flanker7
Sheffield & Rotherham parkrun attendances for 4th & 5th January 2020. 140 - Concord 294 - Graves 137 - Graves-Juniors 521 - Hillsborough , 4th Highest Attendance 494 - Millhouses, 2nd Highest Attendance 79 - Castle 664 - Hallam Total = 2,329 438 - Rother Valley, 3rd Highest Attendance 154 - Clifton Park , 5th Highest Attendance Total = 592 Overall Total = 2,921 Allowing for N.Y.Resolutioners, Millhouses seem to be settling down to an average attedance of between 300 & 350. Several top ten attendances blasted the combined total record. We are now close to the bench mark numbers of 600 for Roth and 3,000 for the combined total. Waldo
Wow at those Millhouses and Hallam numbers! Would have thought new parkrun at Millhouses would draw some people from Hallam, but looking at those numbers, that doesn’t seem to be happening. Parkrun getting more and more popular all the time... Flanker7
It seems to me that Millhouses have pulled runners away from Graves, and its already reached maximum capacity, IMO. What will happen when the below changes to Hallam are instigated goodness only knows. Its safe to say Sheffield & Rotherham already need another parkrun, Blacka Dike parkrun or Eccy Woods parkrun? (New) Endcliffe parkrun , route and try out report....... https://www.parkrun.org.uk/sheffieldhallam/news/2020/01/05/stop-press-the-times-they-are-a-changing-new-endcliffe-parkrun-route-trial/?fbclid=IwAR1j0-RNljwf0Wv5B3K7PZ2tk4NZCmFFMoUoR7LmRK3MSoIylUMFQwxNwL0 So a major change to Sheffield Hallam parkrun, soon to be Endcliffe parkrun, in due course? The above report is comprehensive to say the least and the pictures show some good sections through the woods. No more Rustling Road and some off tarmac paths. Yeah, excited for new Endcliffe parkrun. Wondering how the new course will cope with regular Hallam numbers though, esp. on sections of (presumably quite narrow) path with 2-way traffic! Will be quite cosy I imagine! Any idea when they plan to roll out the new route to the masses? (it’s not my regular parkrun and I want to do one last run on the old route). Flanker7
Sheffield & Rotherham parkrun attendances for 11th & 12th January 2020. 143 - Concord 288 - Graves 116 - Graves-Juniors 548 - Hillsborough , 4th Highest Attendance 485 - Millhouses, 3rd Highest Attendance 101 - Castle 796 - Hallam, 6th Highest Attendance Total = 2,477 444 - Rother Valley, 4th Highest Attendance 174 - Clifton Park , New Attendance Record +14 Total = 618 Overall Total = 3,095 No sooner do I mention approaching benchmark attendances than they are achieved. 600 for Roth and 3,000 for an overall total are a thing of the past now. With all our biggest parkruns getting attendances in their top tens it was a foregone conclusion that the records would be beaten. 2.500 is the next target for the Sheffield area. I guess that we won't be near these totals again till mid summer but it all depends on the weather. Storm Brendan should hve come and gone by next week. Flanker7
Andrew Burgess-Tupling to Yorkshire parkruns - collect them all! The second Saturday in January has seen record cumulative attendance for the Yorkshire & Humber region in 2018 & 2019. 2020 didn’t disappoint and continued this trend. As well as that, there were several venue records and a couple of Niche Stats. Want to know more? Read on! There were 57/59 parkruns in the Yorkshire and Humber region. Cancellations were at Castle Howard and Normanby Hall. Of 57 events completed both last week and this, 42 had higher attendances, 14 were lower and one (Fountains Abbey (483)) was the same. Total attendance was 17748, an increase of 587 (3.4%) from the previous week. The cumulative attendance was a new record for the second Saturday in a row and meant an average attendance of over 300 per venue! There were record attendances at Woodhouse Moor (799), Wakefield Thornes (464), Skipton (303), Cusworth Hall (213), Millfield (205) and Rotherham (174). Cusworth Hall beat the attendance at its inaugural run by the smallest of margins, with Woodhouse Moor beating the record set on NYD. Cleethorpes & Myrtle both had attendances of 223 and Cross Flatts & Rotherham had 174. Niche stats: *This is the first occurrence of 10 venues in the region registering attendances of 500+ on the same Saturday. **This is the first occurrence of five venues in the region registering attendances of 700+ on the same Saturday (beating four on 12 January 2019). These five are all comfortably in the top 1% of all time attendances. The average weekly attendance over the last 12 months has increased by 22.9% (10172 to 12506) The mean attendance per parkrun per week over the history of parkrun for the region is 211.1; the median is 171. *11 venues exceeded attendances of 500 on NYD 2019. **Seven venues exceeded attendances of 700 on NYD 2020. Other than this and the two occasions mentioned above, there are no other instance of more than two venues in the region having attendance of 700+ on the same day.
