The parkrun thread

The headline news in the Yorkshire and Humber region this week was not about the parkruns that did take place, but one that didn’t. Sadly, Catterick became the first parkrun in the region to be cancelled indefinitely.
So as the number has reduced by one, 55/59 events took place across the region.
Total attendance was 11943, an increase of 277 (2.4%) over last week. For the second consecutive week, the largest attendance was at York (570 – one more than last week); the smallest was at Bowling Park (42). Of the events that also took place last week, 23 saw an increase in attendance, 26 saw a decrease and two (Peter Pan (232) and Sheffield Castle (90)) were the same.
Hillsborough and Woodhouse Moor both had attendances of 368, Beverley Westwood and Brighouse had 246, Cleethorpes and Peter Pan had 232, and Myrtle and Selby had 120.

Local parkrunner 'The Pirate' is no more, walked the plank, gone to Davy Jones's Locker.

In a shock ruling from parkrun HQ  'The Pirate' name 'needed' to be changed.

A source from within The Pirate's crew said:-

'The old sea dog is holed below the waterline and seeking solace with a tot of Nelson's blood.

He vows to continue to fly the skull and crossbones and to search the 7 seas for new parkruns both at home and overseas."

The return of Bakewell parkrun is in doupt. It is rumoured that the Peak Park authorities think that its too disruptive to other users of the Monsal trail.

The 250+ parkrunners  who are there from 8:30 -10:00 am, and who fill the cafe, don't count as 'users' of the Monsal trail!

The weather continued to hold good across the Yorkshire and Humber region as summer draws to a close.
55/60 events took place across the region for the second consecutive week.
Total attendance was 11500, a decrease of 456 (3.8%) over last week. The largest attendance was at Huddersfield (534); the smallest – for the second consecutive week - was at Frickley Country (35). Of the events that also took place last week, 18 saw an increase in attendance, 34 saw a decrease and one (Wakefield Thornes (297)) was the same.
The attendance at Frickley Country was the lowest attendance in the region since New Earswick also had 35 on 28 December 2019. The previous time a lower attendance was recorded was 14 December 2019 at Storthes Hall (29).
Chevin Forest’s attendance was more than double that of their inaugural event last week.
Chevin Forest and Rothwell both had attendances of 254, Goole and Millfield had 139, and Centre Vale and Humber Bridge had 126.
The rolling weekly average of 12529* over the last two years represents an increase of 5.0% when compared with the previous year (11937).

The usually peaceful world of parkrun has been stirred, if not shaken, by a comment below at 6:20 and the fateful words at 7:12 in the latest ' Free weekly timed' podcast.

The debate generated 109 replies on the facebook 'UK parkrun tourists' page posted at 10:06am 12/9/21.

My take is - " It's got nowt to do with me. Vassos can do what he wants."
