ultracynic
sounds like it won't be long before there are fights at these events!
Eater Sundae
Yes this - ^^^ BUT generally speaking - when something goes "mass market" - the masses tend to spoil it. (By barging people out of the way, berating their kids etc). In the case of park run - despite everything - many people see it as a "free race." Even if everyone is perfectly behaved, 500+ runners can be pretty intimidating if they are bearing down on someone going for a gentle stroll through a park. Yeah agreed - "masses" - I meant masses in terms of numbers and the different attitudes and problems those numbers bring. I think the first park run was 12 people and somebody held the watch and the coats....Friends going running in the park rather than 500 people marauding through

Eater Sundae
650 runners at Hallam parkrun this morning - wow! We didn't go today, but drove past at around 8:45. There were some tents or similar near the start area. Were these anything to do with park run, or something else? ---------- Post added 19-04-2015 at 21:45 ---------- 650 runners at Hallam parkrun this morning - wow! Some inspired by last week's half marathon, maybe?

Flanker7
Sheffield & Rotherham parkrun totals for 25th April 2015. 56 - Concord 207 - Graves 166 - Hillsborough 36 - Castle 623 - Hallam Total = 1088 000 - Rother Valley (Event in the park) 75 - Clifton Park (New Record) Combined Total = 1163 We would have smashed it if Rother Valley had been on. From 'UK parkrun tourists' - a runner was DQ'ed for cutting off a bit (0.3k) of the course in 1 lap of 3 and wasn't even allowed to run an extra lap to make up the difference. To the RD's out there what would merit a DQ from you?

Flanker7
Grovelands. and it was totally blanked in their run report. As a tourist its great to see how the different teams (of volunteers) get the whole show done and dusted. Sometimes there is Mr Clipboardman and he is the star of the show. Sewerby and Darley Dale spring to mind. Scunthorpe are wide open for massive corner cutting and they have had to have strong words in their 'news' section. But DQ!
