Sheffield & Rotherham parkrun attendances for 'New Years Day'

214 - Graves

158 - Hillsborough

RVp = Iced off.

RVp had 77 'likes' for their explanation of why they cancelled, a pity but understandable. Graves came within a whisker of the same fate but the solution was about 150 metres of 'off-piste' running in muddy, waterlogged mire. Falling in mud is much less dangerous than on ice as a couple of runners found out. A Dewsbury/Graves double was achieved with ease, with other runners going onto Huddersfield by cycle. Did anyone attempt a Barnsley/Hillsborough?

Did Barnsey and Hillsborough on NYD.

Barnsley - lots of ice, probably mostly ice, tricky on such a hilly course, needless to say - very few PBs

Hillsborough, just couple of patches of ice - nothing too serious

Noticed same people at both parkruns - obviously had same idea, good fun doing two 5k in a day.

Rotherham & Sheffield parkrun attendances for 09-01-16

210 - Rother Valley, New Attendance Record +1

98 - Clifton Park, New Attendance Record +23

Total - 308

97 - Concord, 4th Highest

232 - Graves, 3rd Highest

238 - Hillsborough, New Attendance Record +14

42 - Castle, 22nd Highest

610 - Hallam, 6th Highest

Total - 1,219

Combined Total - 1,527

Twenty-five cancellations across UK parkrun this week but that wasn't the reason we set a highest on record 1,527 runners as all 7 local runs went ahead.

Rotherham's two runs both set new attendance records. Hillsborough did their bit for Sheffield and everyone else pitched in with high turnouts. It wasn't the weather that's for sure. I guess last weeks 'resolutioners' all enjoyed running tremendously and told their friends about it. In fact 121 first timers joined the Sheffield and Rotherham parkruns as part of the biggest running event in the world.

Wanting to do a Parkrun this weekend but am concerned that it may be cancelled due to the expected frosty weather. I would be willing to travel a little further afield if anyone can advise of any courses that may be less susceptible to frost.

Do any local PRs have a good record of going ahead?

The current forecast is +1 or 0 for the 9 hours before 9:00am. This will almost certainly change in the next 48 hours.

Best thing to do is check the facebook page when you get up and just before you leave home.

Several runs have course inspections about an hour before start time and post the news a.s.a.p. But, be warned, late cancellations are not unusual.

Hallam is particularly susceptible to ice as their start/finish area is usually covered in water.

Just been to the start area of Hallam. It's not bad. There is a puddle and a small wet dribble towards it but not enough to cause a problem (imo). What happens to the damp paths when frozen is anyone's guess.

Graves - Anyone seen 'the Avenue' area where ground water ran across the path two weeks ago?
