Guest
You can't have different tyres on the same Axel, it's an MOT reg that you will fail on. IIRC you also can't have larger tyres on the front than the rear, but the opposite is ok. That's fair enough, I'd automatically assumed someone wouldn't change just one side
Obelix
Also if you have a different rolling diameter on either side of an axle it'll upset the diff and increase differential wear (assuming it's a driven axle)

I have larger tyres on my front (not noticeable perhaps the MOT place missed it) but I had a puncture on one of my rears and a friend of mine got me two tyres fitted for £10 (he's in the business) so naturally I took them, it has since been MOT'd twice and no one has ever mentioned them. It was always my understanding that it was just both tyres on the same axle that were required to be the same size.
geared
Maybe you can, could have just been some spiel to get me to buy new tyres or something. Lucky I told the guy I'll just swap them round at home.
jbauto
You can have different tyre sizes on one axle to the other. E.g 185 65 15 on both rear. 195 65 15 on both front.
