manxbiker
The Isle of Man had them in the 80s. Can't believe the BBC didn't mention this in their news story on it yesterday. But they did not last withdrawn after a while
Maz3
I like the idea of polymer bank notes, if it makes it ... easier to clean Won't that encourage money laundering?

barleycorn
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-24029785 Should our currency be made of plastic? The bank of England are trialing this new idea. Personally I don't like it. Plastic is a cheap and nasty substance. Paper has worked for centuries so why change it? They don't look or feel like plastic, they last longer and can survive a stint in the washer. What's not to like? Also, for the record, the notes in the UK aren't made of paper, they are made from cotton and linen. No...because apparently they are springy and unfoldable and creep out of pockets. So you would never be able to leave one in your pocket to start with... Not in my experience (Australian notes). The little windows are cool too... jb
Maxtor
Get real. Bread - bad for you? Behave, it's the staff of life. Your french stick gone stale then? ---------- Post added 12-09-2013 at 12:47 ---------- Other countries such as Canada have plastic currency. The notes don't wear out as quickly, and are less prone to tearing. My qualm would be "How easy is it to forge these notes? They have them in Australia too i think

geared
I was amazed to learn that the US Dollar is plastic, you really wouldn't know from just handling it. Dollars feel horrible to handle, I'm not surprised at all that it's plastic and not paper.
