Okay. So your argument is "dog on dog attacks will be prevented if the law states that all dogs must be muzzled"?

To which I would ask; are the police going to make regular patrols of the streets looking for unmuzzled dogs? If not, then the policy is impractical. The scrotes who don't follow the law now won't follow the law in the future.

Oh i know it wont be adhered to by the chav element, and there more than likely isn't the man power to enforce it, so what we have left is a vicious cycle of people buying ever more vicious and dangerous dogs to ensure it can survive an attack.

Imo a few months no excuse enforcement would change minds, as these big brutal chav dogs aren't cheap.

Maybe.

My advice is, if you are concerned about the safety of yourself or your dog, take pepper spray with you on your walk. Self-defence seems to be a more sensible solution than a blanket law that can't be policed.

But that would be illegal, just like someone i know who carries a pick axe handle to protect his little JRT from the local Frankenstein beasts.

I voted no.

The irresponsible owners who don't care what their dogs do would not follow the rules anyway.

I keep my dogs on lead (because the little one has dreadful recall if she sees a bike or another dog who she decides she wants to play with), unless I can see clearly that there is nobody around in which case I let them off but as soon as I see someone they are back on.

People already are wary of one of my dogs because he is a staffy. Unfortunately because of the stigma attached to muzzles, if I put one on him people would avoid him like the plague (I have seen this happen with a lovely bull breed who only wore one because his owner found it stopped him barking all the time), and he would get even less socialisation.

But that would be illegal

:)

Find a legal alternative then. Like a big heavy walking stick.

In all seriousness though, I wish it wasn't that way. I wish that people could go out without considering how to protect themselves from ugly dogs. However, I stand by my comments. I think policing a universal muzzle policy would be virtually impossible.

You could argue that a 30mph and even car insurance is difficult to police, particularly with the staffy wielding chav. Do we bin those laws too as its too hard?
