Mental to take offence?

That you ascribe pecuniary motives says more about you than it does about them.

No: I highlights that I have worked with some of these sort of charities.

In 1997 a "Fundraising Manager" for a national charity who covered one large and three small towns in West Yorkshire was on £30,000+ and a fully funded Audi.

You have to organise a hell of a lot of barn dances and raffles to justify that sort of overhead!

Wheres the insult?

Is this where you make one up, get all offended over nothing?

Look, im not arguing with you, just pointing out the stupidity of your reply.

And the inaccuracy of it.

oooh, there you go, i used the word stupidity, you can now pretend im calling you stupid and then hit me with the B bomb.

Insults are in the eye of the beholder and some people get insulted very easily.

You should put a sock in your mouth and stand in the corner, I would tell you to put one of those pointy hats on with the letter D on it, but someone will just think I'm insulting you. :D

The BBC has reported today that ASDA and Tesco have been forced to withdraw certain halloween costumes because they might offend pyschopaths.

Former footballer Stan Collymore, who has had a well-documented fight with Depression
[i think that was his wifes' name]
, also criticised Asda for using a
"stereotype"
. He alledgedly added
"Why do people think that just because you're mental you're dangerous? I take real offence and if I see anyone wearing one then I'm going to kill them."

Other breaking news...

Paramount Pictures has issued an appology for the offence caused by its' film 'Pyscho'. Their spokeswoman, Polly Getic, said "We're really sorry and are looking to rename the film as soon as possible. We would really appreciate the help of the public in find an appropirate, non-offence name and invite people to put forward their suggestions... answers on a postcard please".

I think we should do a Sheffield Forum entry... any ideas?

This is clearly a wind up! Well done Zamo for nearly causing a riot ...

Surely Halloween zombie costumes should be removed from sale too because they are offensive to dead people? Not all dead people go around ripping victims' heads off and eating their brains, many of them just stay underground and moulder away perfectly peacefully (cont. p. 94)

Furthering the association that every person with a mental health issue is dangerous to others is a bit of fun? You clearly have no idea how many people get harassed, abused or attacked because they have a mental health problem, even though they may be completely harmless to other people.

I think that the issue is more to do with the titles given to the costumes. If they were called 'homicidal idiot' rather than 'mental patient' then I don't think that anybody would have a problem with them.

But aren't you the one associating the two. There are plenty of folk in Rampton because they are homicidal maniacs. That is no reflection on folk who aren't even if they have issues.

The fact that some folk find offense says more about them that folks selling Halloween costumes.

Penny for the guy that you are about to stick on a bonfire probably is another case where those looking to be offended could cash in in a few weeks time.

There are plenty of non-dangerous people in Rampton, which was the whole point of the complaints made by the mental health charities. The association was made by the companies listing the 'axe murderer' costumes as a 'mental patient'.

As I said, withdraw them, relist them quietly with a less offensive name and then everybody will be happy.

They arent doing that so stop being so melodramatic.

Ive suffered from mental illness all of my adult life so im more than qualified to give an opinion. My opinion is people need to get a grip, learn to have a laugh at themselves.

It works wonders.

That is so very true Maxtor, I get played hell with by people for making jokes about my own medical condition. In me it is my release valve; I suspect much the same as you used it, people are too quick to condemn. I'd sooner laugh at the way I am and try to be happy than dwell on it and be miserable for my family & self.
