Do you really believe that? I don't for a second believe that hedge fund managers are buying great swathes of cheap housing in rough areas of Rotherham. Thanks for the link though, it lead me to this which brightened up my evening.http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/anthea-turner-hubbys-firm-loses-2317764

If they do people had better get used to renting.
angos
We'll have to wait and see. If they do people had better get used to renting. Its time we had a law to stop the greedy people that already own property from outbidding the less well off that don't yet own their own home. Couldn't agree more. But don't count on the LibLabCon to deliver it. All of them seem happy to see property as a focus for speculation by investors. It's easy to say it's just greedy landlords but I've spoke to a few pensioners and after being left with a useless pension one or two rented houses IS there pension now. Put it this way, how much do you trust your pension?

Put it this way, how much do you trust your pension? Totally understand why people invest in property. In an environment like we have it's a rational choice for many people but doesn't make it right. It's a sign that something is badly wrong with traditional savings, pensions and investments. It shows that people are hacked off with financial institutions and it shows a lack of trust. I1L2T3
People have inflated expectations of retirement is the problem. Many people do. But it was only a couple of decades ago that people were quitting at 55, hitting the golf course and going on cruises. Expectations are affected by that but as you imply things have changed. Happ Hazzard
The baby boom generation got lucky. People in the generation before them didn't enjoy long retirements with lots of money to spend, and the generation after them certainly won't. And it's not the fault of anyone in particular, it's just the way things are, economic reality.
