SYPTE leaflets - free citywide ticket

I know full well what it's called thank you but in reality it's a road tax.. a tax paid to be able to use the road.. whatever you call it that's what it boils down to..

You can pay VED and never go on the roads-therefore not a road tax.It is hard to pay duty on alcohol without a drink but quite possible to pay VED without driving on the roads. If it were a road tax you would not need multiple tax discs but would have a transferable portable proof of payment.

But it's not possible to use the road without having VED...

Except calling it road tax gives some foolish people the impression that those road users who don't pay it have less right to use the roads than those who do. Some of them then go on to drive with less care around those others, with predictable consequences, because they think they should have priority.

Its a tax you get out of for not using the roads. If you think its nothing to do with that, why not take it off cars and put it onto everyones tax bill?

if you pay VED but do not use the roads, you are paying for something you do not need to so thats not a reason to prove or disprove anything

Of course it is, cyclists do it all the time, pedestrians as well.

they also use the pathways, with your mentality cars should be allowed on their also.

I'd prefer it if it VED was abolished and extra tax put on fuel to make up the loss in revenue.

what if you have no drive but choose to eschew driving -perhaps due to a spell overseas,or even HMP?

I don't think paths will be wide enough for cars.
