2 muslim pupils barred from main school

Recommended Posts

No one chooses to grow hair, it happens naturally. What happens if this schools was the most suitable for these boys. Its a faith school, specialist schools (a Sport and Academy school in that area) often do not cater for children with a faith ;)

But you can choose to keep or remove it. As said previously, the rules were probably in place and the boys would know it

Exactly, the emergence of a beard is a spontaneous process. It seems modern society is hair-phobic with many women choosing to counter natural processes by waxing, shaving and the like.

Kids are not allowed natural hair, but they are allowed pierced ears; just seems upside down to me.

Nick has waded into the row:

Bearded Muslim pupils have right to show 'full faith', says Nick Clegg

You're absolutely right Nick. However:

There is nothing specifically written in the Koran about wearing a beard. It is a choice those boys are making.

I find it strange that 2 devout muslim lads would want to go to a catholic school. .maybe I'm out of step  oh well....

The Qu'ran is only part of Islam though. There are Hadiths that teach the value of growing a beard. However, people pick and choose different hadiths to give validity to.

I'm pulled mainly towards the liberal argument of schools staying out of what people choose to do with their hair. It's not their place to control people like that.

It's ridiculous. Schools should concentrate on educating children and forget all this hysterical over-involvement with their appearance. What example does it set to the kids- how you look is more important than what you learn? How disgracefully shallow and inane. It smacks of power play.

I think Nick has made a bit of a gaff there being a little too eager to jump on the bandwagon.
