damo
I've recently moved into a property and have this (see link) near the ceiling. I believe it's for a pendant lamp but can't find any info or attachments for it online. http://s23.postimg.org/fh2gzrenv/image.jpg
iansheff
Have a try at an electrical wholesalers it has a plug with flex on that can go into a light fitting, we used to put similar fittings in years ago in some hospitals. If there is a faulty fitting you can just unplug it rather that disconnecting in the ceiling rose.

iansheff
There is a cover that screws on to cover the plug making them quite bulky. Most of the ones I remember fitting were on conduit boxes in suspended ceilings.
carosio
A friend sent this message after seeing photo: Yep. Used to sell them when we had the shop. They are indeed for a ceiling light and can be used to allow easy removal for maintenance, redecoration or to interchange different light fittings in an ever changing environment without the need to remove any wires and usually without tools as they 'dovetail' together. That's great thanks! Did they happen to mention what it's called as I can't find a fitting for it anywhere.
