How to make parents dislike you..

If I had to worry all the time about the BSA high level I would not have been a scoutmaster at all. Scouting would have lost a knots expert from my Naval days, a seasoned canoeist with Maine rapids skills, a racing cyclist, and survival skills also learned from the Armed Services. While I have no say what the British Government says a firearm is, in the US an air rifle is not a firearm.

Your contributions whilst laudable are irrelevant to the position of the BSA.

In case you hadn't noticed, we are discussing firearms in the UK here....

They are bought over here without license also, still firearms though

Unless you want to include pigeons or rats it can hardly be considered lethal.

Do you not have air rifles as powerful as ours? Or is it that Americans are tougher?

Over here, 12ft/lb (and less, in some cases) is enough to be lethal

I am simply quoting from Webster's Dictionary which states that a firearm is a device that shoots an explosive charge. I neither know nor care whether your air rifles are killers or not. Over here air rifles are usually of .117 inch bore, can be pumped to shoot or shoot from a CO2 gas cylinder. They can be loaded with multiple BBs or single pellets. The BSA has been very active in recent years selling good campgrounds which were first provided by donations from the public to Indian casinos. Some of this money has never been accounted for. This is a great counttry for scouting with vast areas of wilderness to work in, and it survives because there are still enough fathers and older brothers who go out and keep it alive.

Again your contributions whilst laudable are irrelevant to the position of the BSA.

Since we are discussing the legal implications of a firearm it makes sense to consider what the legal position is. Also a firearm doesn't use an explosive, if it did there would be a lot of ruptured breeches. They use a deflagrant. I presume you mean .177 as well - I'd hate to handle pellets any smaller :)

As I pointed out, I am quoting Webster's, who uses the the term 'explosive'. I know Mr. Webster is not held in high esteem by the country of the OED, but its what we've got. He did not care overmuch for the letter U, but cannot be blamed for totally changing the name of nearly every part of an automobile (car) because they weren't invented yet. Now every person over the age of 15 has to own one.:)

...and again you go off into erroneous willy-waving...

No it's an accurate statement of what you were doing. I could have said socio-aggressive posturing designed to bolster your ego and divert attention from the issue that you wish to obfuscate. However I thought you might not understand that (that's an insult) and so went for a shorter phrase that encapsulate everything more succintly.
