whizwhiz2
Am I able to ride a 125cc scooter (one of those twist and go annoying thing) on a full uk car licence or do I still need to pass a CBT test ?
sedith
You will need to take the full test for a motorcycle.
sgtkate
You will need to take the full test for a motorcycle. This is half the answer. It depends. The simple answer is that you will need to take a CBT. Costs about £100, lasts half a day. It's v basic and makes sure you can control the scooter and understand road signs etc. Pass this and you can ride a 125cc bike (well 33bhp but we won't get into that) with 'L' plates. No motorways etc. CBT needs to be retaken every 2 years. To drive without 'L' plates or on motorways you'd need to take the full test.

sgtkate
Can't you ride something up to 50cc with a car licence? Yes, if you passed your driving test before Feb 2001. From DVLA: "If you passed your car driving test before 1 February 2001 you are qualified to ride a moped without L plates (and/or D plates in Wales), although it is recommended that you complete CBT before riding on the road." A moped is a 50cc scooter.

Obelix
If you have a pipcture of a bike on the back then do you have a cat A entitlement? Box 9 shows entitlements, if it has an A in there and corresponding dates then check the Codes box on the right to see what restrictions there are. alchresearch
Regardless of whether you can or not I'd strongly suggest taking the CBT to get some experience and basic tuition. 125cc scooters can be fairly heavy and powerful and a big difference from a car, especially if you've never been on a bike before.
