Why do some women become porn ''actresses''?

Recommended Posts

I read recently about certain porn 'stars' vehemently defending their career path as if it was normal, and as if other women were somehow abnormal for not doing likewise?

They claim to be ''cleaner'' than the rest of society as they purport to get health checks after each scene. But as they supposedly pay for their tests themselves, and many escort as well, are they to be trusted?

Are we completely taboo-free today? Is there no moral stigma about being a porn actress? How would we feel about female relatives etc doing it? Are these women mentally/emotionally damaged, uneducated, trash or needing psychiatric help?

If porn is so 'normal', why don't more women do this for a profession, rather than studying hard or working in an office?

Probably because for many (not all) it is either easy money or the only way to seek the fame and attention that they so crave.

Wouldn't personally want my OH or sister etc to go down that path, and certainly wouldn't ever do anything like that myself. But I do understand that I am turning into a bit of a boring prude as I get older so maybe I'm getting out of touch,

I think they must kid themselves on it's ok. Maybe some people think it's going to be an easy way to make money (being paid to do something you enjoy!). But then you read about porn stars taking drugs, being unable to have normal relationships, being caught up in the whole sleazy scene and unable to quit ... Any glamour that's attached must quickly wear off. The film Boogie Nights is brilliant on this topic.

Yeah, and I wonder how their kids, and family, handle it?

There must be emotional problems rife in their psyche to 'disrespect' themselves in that public way?

Presumably the same reason why more women dont become a normal actress or a stripper or a singer or a tv personality. Its not a job that just anyone can do and to make a career out of it - you have to be talented.

Taboo free today? You are making it sound as if motion picture pornography is new and alien concept. Its been around for over 100 years with various degrees of acceptance. Certainly from the 70s onwards it was just a job to people.

Any stigma afforded to these people is down to an individuals problems not the said actress. Porn is part of life. I beleive anyone who tries to pretend it doesn't exist are the ones who need "psychiatric help".

I think most people accept its existence but do question whether or not it is a wise career choice. On a documentary many US stars revealed they had to wear nappies to overcome stretched recta-a consequence of strenuous unnatural acts performed to placate a hungry male audience.Anyone who would want this is deserving of the help you advocate.

Its just a job, some people spend their life doing jobs they hate for little reward, I would guess that many porn 'stars' enjoy the job they do, but if they don't at least they are better paid than many other people that hate their jobs.

Here's a strong contender for Barely Concealed Misogyny Post Of The Year Award.

Why have you singled out women for criticism? Don't men appear in porn films too? Aren't they deserving of the same criticism you dish out to women? It's not as if porn is an illegal activity. Most paedophiles, rapists, etc, are men so where's the gender attack there?

The OP smacks of the attitude that a man who has sex with a lot of women is a hero but a woman who has sex with a lot of men is a slut.
