aubreyboyce
Thank you for that Mike. I must admit that I was a little unwilling to read your link, after the Mayans let us down so badly, but I did and found it very informative. Lets just make the most of the time we have old friend! Vague_Boy
2013 TV135 is a PHO (Potentially hazardous object) and has a rating of 1 out of 10 on the Torino scale for impact hazards; this indicates that it "poses no unusual level of danger". With a short observation arc of 9 days, it has about a 1 in 48000 chance of impacting Earth on August 26, 2032. An Earth impact would cause a release of the energy of 2400 megatons of TNT. But the nominal orbit shows that 2013 TV135 will be 1.7 AU (250,000,000 km; 160,000,000 mi) from Earth on August 26, 2032. With more observations, NASA JPL fully expects they will be able to significantly reduce, or rule out entirely, any impact probability for the foreseeable future. LINK Odds of 1 in 48000. Better not cancel that pension plan just yet. An AU (Astronomical Unit) is the distance between earth and the sun. So the sun (92,955,807.3 million miles) will be closer to us than this asteroid. Mikes10
2013 TV135 only has to have lightest of kisses on a as yet unknown rock and we could have the sixth mass-extinction event. Then again it could be zero on the Torino scale.
Anna Glypta
August 26, 2032, see this link http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/10/18/were_doomed_again_as_astronomers_spot_asteroid_that_could_hit_earth_in_2032/ Don't worry. Vlad will be seen on Russian TV jumping from a microlight without a shirt and wrestling the asteroid into submission.
