- Running for every heartbeat in Tudor Square -

Fundraisers from across the region are being called on to chase a target of £10,000 at the popular annual Sheffield Santa Jog in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

The event billed “Sheffield Chase the Pud 2013” takes place on Sunday 8 December at 11am in Tudor Square and will support the BHF in its fight for every heartbeat.

Sheffield Chase the Pud 2013 will see hundreds of people jog two laps through the heart of the city dressed as Santa chasing a Christmas pudding. All money raised from the event will help to fund the BHF’s life-saving research.

This year’s event is organised by BHF Sheffield Major Events Committee in partnership with Sheffield City Council and BBC Radio Sheffield. Jo Strong, event lead for the local BHF committee, says “We are delighted to launch the Sheffield Chase the Pud 2013 challenge in support of the BHF, to raise as much money as possible to help people with heart disease, including the many living with this devastating illness in our region. A selection of prizes will be awarded on the day to children wearing the most festive costumes and a special prize will be delivered in the New Year to the person raising most sponsorship.”

Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Cllr Vickie Priestley, who is supporting the event, adds “Events like these are vital in the fight for every heartbeat. I would like to thank the BHF volunteers for taking the time to organise this important fundraising event, I’m sure it will be great fun and very successful. I would like to encourage as many people as possible to take part in the run and help raise money for the BHF. Together we can make a difference but we can’t do it without you.”

Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer. For over 50 years the BHF has pioneered research that’s transformed the lives of people living with heart and circulatory conditions. This work has been central to the discoveries of vital treatments that are changing the fight against heart disease. But so many people still need help from babies born with life-threatening heart problems to the many Mums, Dads and Grandparents who survive a heart attack and endure the daily battles of heart failure. Join the fight for every heartbeat in the UK. Every pound raised, minute of your time and donation to BHF shops will help make a difference to people’s lives.

Entry for Sheffield Chase the Pud 2013 is £10 for adults and young people aged 14 and over. Children under 14 can enter for free if in fancy dress and accompanied by a paying adult.
