barleycorn
I have a 74 mile round trip, so 370 per week (excluding any weekend I may work). At approx 36mpg and £1.30/L that makes it ~£60/week. By train it would cost me £14/day, £70/wk, excluding bus travel to and from the train station and take 5hrs a day rather than the 2-2.5 travel by car does. jb
jfish1936
Living on the coast, and with an office in the hinterland, I travelled some 20 kms to work and 20 back. My Diesel Mitsubishi Pajero used about 1.5 litres, at today's Australian price, maybe $3, or 1.5 GBP. Why a 4 wheel drive? Because I might be called out from my surgery, to see a patient living in an area of poor roads, maybe in a heavy rain time. Once had to use my winch to pull a fallen tree out of the way. Those trips cost more!
